Hard to think of a more stylish way to travel than in one of these...

Visited a local classic car meet last night. A lot of open topped British cars and an interesting Ford Pop dragster. Made a couple of quick sketches of the two cars I'd most like to have driven home in. First a lovely oily rag condition Singer Nine...

Voisin Laboratoire C6

A car I've wanted to sketch for a long time and very pleased to see it at Goodwood again. Had a nice chat with the owner - and even ended up push-starting it in the paddock!

Miller Golden Submarine

I'm a big fan of Barney Oldfield's exploits - and cars. Great to see the Golden Sub again and just had to sketch it. The owner very kindly showed me his scrapbook which showed the many modifications made of the years. It didn't have the enclosed cockpit for very long at all. It filled with fumes and was chopped off after a close shave with a fire.

The collection of LSR cars this year was stunning. Here's Henry Segrave's 1000hp, twin engined Sunbeam - the first car to do over 200mph!

Bluebird CN7

Donald Campbell's CN7 looks spectacular. Officially the first car to do over 400mph (although Breedlove's 3-wheeled 'Spirit of America' was slightly faster). Powered by a Proteus turbine t's the last wheel driven car to hold the outright record and was actually designed for 500mph!

Malcolm Campbell's 5th Blue Bird car - powered by an amazing supercharged V12 Rolls-Royce R engine - good for 2,300hp!

Golden Arrow

Henry Segrave's beautiful Golden Arrow was powered by a 24 litre Napier Lion aero engine. It's W12 layout gives the car it's distinctive shape. It has possibly the lowest mileage of any record car - having only driven about 20 miles!

Blue Bird - 350hp Sunbeam

There was an amazing collection of land speed record cars at the Festival of Speed this year. This is my favourite sketch from the weekend - one of Malcolm Campbell's earliest cars. It was started life as a race car and was modified several times.

The final illustration of Ralph Lauren's Bugatti - used in The Automobile magazine.

The Automobile article

It's been a great month for getting work in magazines. Very pleased with this 3 page Auto-biography in 'The Automobile' - they even gave me the inside cover for an illustration of Ralph Lauren's Bugatti.

Here's a better scan of the Webers. There's also a little time-lapse clip here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7nEVS6OBoA

Weber Carbs Illustration

I've been lucky enough to get an illustration in Octane magazine - not sure about the black border though.
